It takes a fair bit of bottle to decide that Manchester should have its own Rum distillery. It’s not easy to get a license to make it and it’s arguably not the most popular of drinks, unless you’re a pirate. Bearing in mind that no pirates have been spotted on the Manchester ship canal since 1980, at the height of the New Romantic scene, then maybe going down the Gin route would have been a better decision. Gin is trendy, even my mate big Dave* is partial to a Gin & tonic. Gin would be the easier choice.
But you know what, Manchester doesn’t do easy and neither does Sam Rowley-Neale. We like Sam. We like Sam’s Rum. We don’t like New Romantics.
What started off as a little bit of home brew has developed into really pure, smooth white Rum, born in Manchester and christened as “Faraday’s Proof“. With one of the few official licences for the production of Rum in the UK Manchester Still Inc, made up of Sam and his business partners Dr Michael Down and bar industry expert (I want to be one of those when I grow up ;)) Joe Spencer, are already creating quite a buzz in and around Manchester and they’re even exporting their Rum to China.
Meeting with Sam and Joe a couple of weeks ago I was struck by their desire to produce a drink of real quality which they hope will be enjoyed in good company, with old friends and new. They’ve obviously tried to create great branding for “Faraday’s Proof” and in our opinion they’ve succeeded, in fact they already sell a truck load of branded Tees. As the business grows they hope to put some of their profit into good causes and, where possible, they try and source products and services for their business from other Manchester suppliers.
If you’re interested in buying or stocking “Faraday’s Proof” white rum please check out the Manchester Still Inc site.
* Big Dave now enjoys a glass of “Faraday’s Proof”, always with ice and a Man City cocktail umbrella.
Win a Bottle of “Faraday’s Proof” White Rum (Over 18’s Only)
Sam has very kindly offered a bottle of “Faraday’s Proof” White Rum as a prize in this giveaway. In fact the winner will be able to collect the prize from Sam himself at the Manchester Still Distillery, which is located near Piccadilly train station. Sam will show you around the distillery, explaining the manufacturing process and explaining why it’s perfectly acceptable for you and your friends to #LoveTheRum.
The winner of this giveaway will be contacted in order to arrange a convenient time to visit the distillery. Please bear this in mind as we can’t ship this prize. The winner must be over 18 so it’s important that both ourselves and Manchester Still Inc are happy that is the case, which is why Sam has also offered the distillery visit.
Don’t forget, you have several chances to win this prize if you decide to choose all the options that are listed on Rafflecoptor (the established, trusted plugin we use to run these giveaways and one which allows us to choose a random winner). Each option you choose, i.e. follow on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc, etc, count as one entry. So more chances to win….
